Choosing fabric for the Linden Quilt
28 April 2026
When the Linden Quilt sample came out of the wash, I was surprised by how much I loved the simplest version. Three fabrics, a quiet accent strip, and not a single fussy print.
If you're choosing fabric for your own Linden, here's where I'd start.
Pick a calm base. Something you'd happily live with as a sofa throw. A soft linen, a washed cotton, a low-volume print. This is the bulk of the quilt and it sets the temperature.
Pick a contrast. One step deeper or warmer than your base. Think of it as the bridge between your background and the accent. A cinnamon next to a cream, a soft sage next to a stone.
Pick an accent. This is the strip that does the heavy lifting. Choose something with a little drama, but not so much that it shouts. I love a small floral, a hand-block print, or a single rich solid.
That's it. Three fabrics, in a 60/30/10 ratio, will give you a quilt you'll love for years. Anything more than four and the pattern starts to feel busy.
